Beyond the obvious cuteness, I think this is one of those unlikely animal friendships that challenges the way we overly simplify cats and dogs into neat little stereotypes. We were raised on the cartoon relationship between cats and dogs: constant fighting, chasing each other around the house and competing for the hooman's attention. In reality, animals are a lot more complicated than that.
Some cats hate dogs and some dogs have no idea what to do with cats. Some become inseparable. It all depends on their instinctual prey drive and the relationships they built in their home environments.
Temperament, early socialization, boundaries, and individual purrsonality all matter more than the label we slap on species. Honestly, that feels like a pretty good lesson for us hoomans, too. We are very good at deciding what someone is like based on what group they belong to, then acting surprised when reality turns out to be more nuanced.
